Champagne Coffee Table

This project came about from a combination of things. I needed a coffee table for my cottage, I wanted to have some fun with making stencils on my Cricut, and Country Chic Paint had Pop the Bubbly as their Color of the Month in January. I started with a nice (but boring) solid oak table I found at the ReStore before the pandemic.

I wanted to make it go with everything else in my cottage, and I have a lot of oak leaf and Fleur de Lis motifs, so I added air dry clay castings made with an Iron Orchid Designs mould.

Next I gave the whole table two coats of Pop the Bubbly paint.

To keep with the French theme, I added grainsack stripes using masking tape and white paint.

A big stripe in the middle flanked by smaller stripes looks great.

Removing the tape while the second coat of white paint is still wet helps keep the lines crisp.

Now comes the fun part with the stencils. I used contact paper to cut them out with my Cricut machine, and made sure everything was centered and lined up straight.

I used Royal Stencil Creme in Smoked Oyster (my favorite silvery gold shade) from Royal Design Stencils and applied it with a foam pouncer.

I had a three blocks of letters and fancy edging on the sides.

I love how the letters turned out; crisp and shimmery, with a little bit of texture.

Because my family has a winery, and we make sparkling wines, I had to go with a Champagne theme for my Pop the Bubbly table.

The Fleur de Lis showed up again on the top of the table.

A little bit of smoky glaze brought out the details on the sides.

Now I have a totally unique, personalized, table. Our winery is called RainSong, and this translates to “Song of the rain, purveyors of high quality Champagne for many years.” Since we’ve been making sparkling wines by hand in our winery for more than thirty years, this seemed apt.

This table will be in my great room, and when you look out the window to the West, you see the winery. Perfect!
