Organ Stool Makeover
I was looking for a chair for my vanity table, and my mom suggested our old organ stool. This came with an antique pump organ that’s been in the family for generations. It’s at my parents’ house, but it rarely gets played, and the stool was tucked away upstairs.
It had a velvety green top, but it was starting to come apart, so we put a muslin cover on years ago with the intention of recovering it, but we never got around to it.
I found a velvety golden green brocade which I felt was in keeping with the original look as well as matching my color scheme.
I cut a large circle from the brocade, as well as four layers of cotton batting.
I stapled the batting in place first to give it a little extra softness.
Next, I stapled the brocade over the top. I started four sides and moved on to the corners, then the spots in between.
The velvety brocade is soft and rich looking, and the layers of batting make the seat very comfy.
The bottom of the stool has a beautiful, aged patina which I left as is.
The green brocade matches the background color of the vanity, and the black iron base matches the drawer pulls. They look beautiful together.
I love adding layers of history in the form of family heirlooms to my cottage. It just makes it all the more special!
