Starry Yellow Side Table

I needed a little table to hold things in my turret entry, so I started with this side table that belonged to my great aunt. It is solid and has both a shelf and a drawer for storage, but isn’t quite my style.

I started by removing the drawer handle and filling in the holes.

I added a line of stars using air dry clay and a Prima Stars and Moons Mould. At first I used regular wood glue, which didn’t stick to the shiny wood very well. But Titebond Quick and Thick did the trick.

I added beaded swags and extra stars to the drawer.

I painted the first coat in Rocky Mountain from Country Chic Paint. This way when I sand the edges to distress them, the dark gray will show in spots.

Next I painted two coats of Country Chic’s Color of the month, Bee’s Knees.

I used a Deco Art Harlequin Stencil to add pattern to the sides using Royal Design Studio’s Smoked Oyster Stencil Creme.

I rubbed a bit of Deco Art’s Metallic Lustre Wax in Black Shimmer over the mouldings to highlight them.

I mixed a small amount of Smoked Oyster Stencil Creme with some Bee’s Knees paint and used it to stamp a border on the top of the table with the Bohemian Florals Stamp from Prima Redesign.

The same custom paint and stamp set produced a different look when used over Rocky Mountain on the sides of the drawer.

I sealed the table with a Satin Polycrylic Sealer from Minwax.

This little table will reflect several colors and design motifs from my turret. The harlequin pattern echoes the checkerboard floor and will also pair nicely with the harlequin armoire I am planning.

The painted border reflects the metallic lace border near the ceiling.

The stars match those hanging from the chandelier. The fleur de lis handle is a smaller version of those on my kitchen cabinets.

The inside of the drawer is Country Chic’s Tropical Cocktail. It’s an almost perfect match for the turret ceiling.

The stamped design is similar to the paisley designs on the ceiling of my great room (visible through the turret doorway).

I love how all the details I added changed this table from an ordinary piece to something totally unique and perfectly at home in my turret. I think my great aunt would approve!
