Decoupaged Dishwasher
I needed to do something about my dishwasher. It was stainless steel because that’s all we could get early on in the pandemic, and it didn’t look good with the rest of my kitchen. I didn’t even take a picture of it beforehand, because I intended to give it a coat of white appliance paint with an ivory grain sack stripe and call it good. But there was a small spot near the handle where the paint didn’t stick well. I tried respraying it and it bubbled around the edges and got bigger. Clearly paint wasn’t going to do the trick. Decoupage paper to the rescue.
I chose The Honeycomb pattern from Decoupage Queen. I needed two large sheets. I feathered the edge of the design so that the seam wouldn’t be as visible.
I measured and cut holes for the handle of the dishwasher.
I started at the top and applied a liberal coat of Decoupage Gel under the paper and smoothed it down.
When I got near the bottom of the first sheet, I folded it up, and placed the second sheet underneath it, then adhered the first down over the top.
I used a piece of the scrap left over from the second sheet to cover the handle, smoothing it down around the back.
I cut the edges to fit and folded them around the sides, and under the bottom edge.
I sealed the paper with two coats of Decoupage Gel, and another two coats of Gator Hide from Dixie Belle Paint. Now it’s protected and hard as a rock. The honeycomb pattern looks great with my hexagon backsplash and the bees all buzz together nicely!
