Fern Vanity

I’ve been working on a few projects lately not connected with the cottage. One was updating the bathroom in our winery. A new coat of paint on the walls made the room feel light and fresh, and I updated the vanity to give it a natural, outdoorsy look. It started as a basic black vanity from a big box store. My pugoodle Agatha is a very good helper.

I wanted a look of layered greens, so I started with a base of Country Chic Paint in Fireworks.

I put on a heavy coat of Country Chic’s Crackle Medium, and added a discontinued limited edition paint from Country Chic called Conquer. It cracked beautifully, and instantly gave the piece an aged feel.

I used various green chalk paints to add ferns and leaves to the bottom of the vanity using the Fronds Decor Stamp from Iron Orchid Designs.

A little bit of Patina Green Stencil Creme updated the knobs to blend in with the rest of the greens on the vanity.

The doors got bigger ferns and I added a little row of short ones to the bottom of the cabinet.

I like the way the layers of paint give the piece a natural, aged look.

It’s all installed in our freshly painted bathroom, bringing a touch of nature indoors.

Hi, I'm Fiona! I love upcycling and creating beautiful, useful items from castoffs. I enjoy travel, sewing (I sell costume hats on Etsy), painting furniture, and spending time with my family and my pugoodle Agatha. I live on a beautiful vineyard in Oregon. Ticklepenny Cottage is my own little fairy tale come true. Thanks for joining me on my journey to make it a reality!
