Whimsy- Rose Painted Wall Letters

I just added a wonderful addition to my studio. On the wall above the counter holding my sewing machines, I hung big wooden letters spelling the word “Whimsy” and decorated them with my favorite stamped roses. My Etsy shop is called Royal House of Whimsy, so I will probably add some sort of crown eventually, but for now I think they look great.

I started with large wooden letters that I found on sale at Lucky Clover Trading Company. I read that they were 24″ tall but when they arrived they were bigger than I had imagined. I had planned to make them the centerpiece of a gallery wall, but they ended up taking up the whole wall instead.

I started by painting dark yellow around the edges of each letter.

Next I painted them black, going lightly around the edges to let the yellow peek through and give the letters a more aged feel.

I used the Painterly Roses Stamp set from Iron Orchid Designs. I started with burgundy and pale green for my bases coats.

Next I added a lighter red and a dark pink to fill out the roses.

I went over the leaves with a yellow green to add depth and brighten it up.

An olive green veining over the leaves gave just the look I wanted.

I’ve said it before, but I just love this stamp set! It’s so versatile and you can create so many different looks with it.

My studio is really starting to come together!
