Great Room Chandeliers

I have a variety of lighting in my great room. The focal piece is a huge crystal encrusted chandelier that I found at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. They said that a man brought it home from a business trip thinking his wife would love it, and she didn’t, so they donated it. It still had the original $2,500 price tag, but the ReStore was only asking $200. They figured it would be hard to find someone who needed a chandy this big. Well, my cottage was under construction, and it seemed like a perfect match for the vaulted ceiling in my great room.

I started by decorating a ceiling medallion to pair with the chandelier. I painted it a warm yellow-green, then added a gray glaze and gold and silver metallic highlights. This was a while ago, and I don’t remember the exact products I used.

It ended up matching the warm silvery texture of the chandelier perfectly.

My sister is fearless about heights, and volunteered the scale the scaffolding and decorate the ceiling for me.

She used a Rani Paisley Indian Damask Wall Stencil and Smoked Oyster Stencil Creme from Royal Design Studio to paint a medallion on each of the eight ceiling panels.

The colors were perfect, and the metallic stencil creme reflects the light beautifully.

The chandelier has eight arms so it really is a perfect match for the room.

It won’t be easy to dust, but to certainly makes a statement!

I had ordered a couple of simple chandeliers when I thought I would have a warmer color scheme. They are just fine on their own, but they didn’t look good hanging beside the big silver beauty.

So I used Modern Masters Warm Silver metallic paint over the amber glass pieces.

Removing the yellow shades helped bring them closer to where they needed to be.

But these incredible shades and crystals made all the difference. ReStore to the rescue again. I’ve never seen shades like these, with the beautiful curls and points of a flower petal. The best part? They were only $2 each! The vintage glass crystals came from an antique store in Centralia, Washington that I visited right before the pandemic hit.

There weren’t enough of the petal shades, so the second small chandy got frosted glass with a Fleur de Lis design, again for $2 each. This one still needs one more crystal in the center, but I’ll find one.

Now it feels like all the hanging lights work together. They are all different, but the warm silver color and the glass crystals tie them together and make them look like a bright, sparkly family!
