Pirate Ship Chandelier

This chandelier was one of those things that as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to incorporate it into my cottage. I’ve always admired the giant ship chandeliers that are dripping with crystals, but then I saw a simple ship light in the book “Junk Gypsy: Designing a Life at the Crossroads of Wonder & Wander” by Amie Sikes and Jolie Sikes. I was smitten and wanted one just like it. Luckily, the fabulous ladies from Junk Gypsy designed one for Pottery Barn Teen, the Junk Gypsy Dream Ship Chandelier (its no longer available, but I was lucky enough it get mine a couple of years ago).

When I got it, it was a dark almost black metal, with lots of clear plastic beads draped across it.

I started by removing the beads so I could paint it. Because the dark color wouldn’t show well against the black ceiling in my bedroom, I painted it with Modern Masters Warm Silver paint to match the moon and stars already in the room.

A long handled paint brush was necessary to reach all the nooks and crannies.

It ended up looking like a hammered finish, which I love.

I found a variety of clear and black glass chandelier crystals in my craft stash. There are lots like these on eBay.

I used spray paint to make some of my favorite rusty stars a solid gold.

I made small danglers for the upper part of the ship (around the sails).

I used chain to make longer pieces to hang from the hull of the ship.

Now it contrasts with the black ceiling beautifully.

The crystals sparkle when the lights are on.

Its a perfect compliment to my moon face from Gemini Dragonfly.

Its like an airship from a storybook, or Captain Hook’s ship from Peter Pan sailing across the night sky. What a beautiful view as I drift off to sleep.

Pin for later if you’d like to make something similar.

Here’s a list of the materials I used for this project.
